Did you know that the majority of people who run their own small businesses under perform in one of the areas that could help them succeed most?
Blogging may seem like many to be a waste of time, something that only hobbyists do for fun, but it can actually be used to strengthen your audience, increase the power of your website, and help you dominate the competition. I have designed a course which will teach you how to be a blogger in under one hour. Yes. In one hour, if you give me the time, I will tell you everything you need to know to make your blog strong. I’ve made my entire career in marketing out of blog writing, and most of my customers come in through blogs and word of mouth. If I can do this as a washed up actor, so can you!
If you blog regularly and well, you will have content you can always share on social media for your company, you will have increased site traffic and you will rank higher for more search terms in your local area. That is a definite win!
What is the Goal of Writing My Blog?
First, we have to establish weather you are writing the blog as a hobbyist, business, or affiliate marketer. In this video, I cover mainly business and affiliate marketing and why blogging is important. When starting your blog, think about your goals. Do you want to bring in more customers? Do you want to provide information for your customers? Do you want to establish yourself as an expert in your business? These kinds of questions are important when it comes to figuring out the direction of your blog.
Keywords, Long Tail Keywords and Trends
When you’re first thinking about what you want to write about, it’s important to think of these three things: Keywords, Long Tail Keywords and Trends. It’s important you know a bit about them before actually working on your blog so that when you are writing you can sprinkle them around for reasons I discuss in more detail in the video.
- Keywords – Words that help define what your blog is about. Such as words for this blog might be: Writing, Blogging, Course. For you, think of words that apply to your business, goods and services. These words get scanned by Google’s crawlers and help your blogs empower your website. They can be used competitively to rank on search engines.
- Long Tail Keywords – These are collections of words that fit together, but apply to your business for example, like [Your business types] in [Your location here] So for Ipswich based Garden Centre businesses, Where to get Garden Gnomes in Ipswich, for example. (How to apply this: If you are wondering where to get Garden Gnomes in Ipswich, look no further than [Business Name] We have all the Garden Gnomes you could ever want, and plastic lawn flamingos aplenty!
- Google Trends can be used to help find topics if you are struggling to come up with ideas for blogs.
Using these three things, you can make your blogs powerful from the get-go. Next, up we will get into writing!
Structuring and Writing Your Blog
Now you know the three main weapons I use to get my blog found, we can talk about how to structure and write our blog. You’re going to want to use simple language and have a word count of around 1500 words in your blog to ensure it’s choc full (mmm chocolate) of valuable information. Informative blogs do really well and beat low word count blogs into the dust. Figure out the topic, outline things so that you know how to flow through the blog without it being alienating, and make the experience awesome for the reader! If you’ve got this far, you’re doing well and I believe in you!
Internal Linking
When you have got a few blogs written, you should make sure they are linked into each other internally. So for example, I’ll link right here to my blog on Yell – In this blog, I did a deep dive into Yell’s malpractice and the way they manipulate customers. This example is an offsite link, but you will mainly want to link to the other blogs you have worked on. It will strengthen the power of all your blogs as internal links endorse your other content telling a search engine: Hey! This content is valuable! Good internal linking will benefit your blog and make you into a blogging powerhouse!
Make it Green, Captain! Make it EverGreen!
Evergreen content is content that doesn’t expire. A service, like for me, blog-writing and digital marketing is a great thing to blog about, though some things do change in the search engine algorithms, if you are talking about something that will always be valuable – such as gardening tips, MOTs, you name it. You know your business and what changes and what doesn’t change. An evergreen post can be shared again and again over time and will always be valuable. This is the king of the content!
Referencing the Work of Others
Sometimes you will want to reference the work of others in blogs, this can be used later to reach out to them, but it can be good to show that you are paying attention to the world and stats and figures or new and innovative ideas. It’s always important to reference people properly. I like to do it like this: In his blog on How to Spruce up Your Business, Alex states: “If you would like to learn about marketing in all it’s forms, I will be going through everything I have learned and I will show you many amazing tips on the new YouTube Channel I have set up for free, if you’re interested in improving your marketing, feel free to subscribe and hit the notification bell for whenever I’m releasing new content” Then I add my own thoughts. – In this shameless promotion, Alex is trying to get people to watch his content to help improve their marketing. His use of video is absolutely shameless, as are his referral links. I would never do that…

Reaching Out To Other Bloggers!!!
Nothing will make you more powerful than an alliance. A meeting of minds, a collaboration to overwhelm and destroy your competition! This is the marketing game! We live and die as businessmen on the friendships we forge, and the alliances we keep! Reaching out to other bloggers, contacting them and asking if they will link to us, and linking to them is a great way to build and strengthen bonds, to unite and share the power of the sites we are building. It can be hard to reach out and to contact bloggers, but rest assured, those of us who love what we do will value working with you.
Case Study: Watch the Master in Action!
In this video, I will show you what makes Neil Patel one of the greatest bloggers of all time. The setup, the design, the marketing psychology. Everything about his work is designed to promote his ability in marketing. From the layout of his blog, to the structure and to the content, with calls to action aplenty and information that keeps the audience hooked.
Now it is Time – Unsheathe Your Sword and Venture Forth
Now you will have all the knowledge and tools you need to make your own blog and to blog powerfully, overwhelming the competition. So let’s go back and have a little look at how I’ve set the blog up. I used a hook, which was a question, filled the blog with valuable keywords – there was one of them again, I have used over 1500 words, kept the content as simple as possible without going into the sheer hell that is the world of SEO, and I have hit my 1500 word count.
I’ve broken the blog up with video rather than images so that it covers all of the topics and the videos consolidate what I am trying to share with you, my friend, fellow blogger! The image for this blog was acquired and used from Pexels, (From Pixabay’s account on Pexels for the fun of it) I have used Question and Answer, internally linked, and shamelessly promoted my own content, and not so shamelessly showed the incredible work of the master in action.
Now you can venture forth, into a new world. Write amazing blogs with this information. Push your content and your brand out into the very reaches of time and space, and above all else, you will be able to be found on Google. This process will take time. It will take effort. You will get frustrated, and it will drive you crazy if you worry about it. So just write, focus your energy on writing about what you know, your business, and don’t forget, my friend. I believe in you.
